The Legal Café closes in Belsize Park amid rent dispute
Residents of Belsize Park were dismayed to discover the closure of The Legal Café – a law themed café that offered up legal advice to it’s customers, alongside soup and bagels.
The café was opened in 2007 by a former partner at Linklaters, Marshall Levine, as an “up-market citizens advice bureau” – conceived to offer residents help with matters such as dispute resolution, wills, divorce and insolvency.
Mr Levine arrived at the café one morning to discover the locks had been changed. The Landlord, Antonis Evangelou – who also owns the Greek restaurant Lemonia in Primrose Hill - had the building secured after a dispute over the rent.
Mr Levine says he plans to challenge the forfeiture notice in court.
