The “money-driven soulless enterprise” of Foxtons faces local opposition to its application to move into the old post office on West End Lane: more than 20 individual objections have been filed against this proposition. A particular complaint of residents is that this particular street already has a high density of estate agents, and Foxtons is, at best, unnecessary in an area with 30 estate agents. There are also concerns that the presence of Foxtons would “artificially inflate property prices” and “degrade” the area. The West Hampstead and Fortune Green Neighbourhood Plan apparently offers quite different suggestions for the use of such spaces, calling on the council to support “more community-owned spaces and independent retailers”.
