Four-job Tory MP blows £25million on property in central London

A Guardian investigation into the finances of Nadhim Zahawi, the MP for Stratford-on-Avon and former advisor to David Cameron, has revealed that the politician earned just under £360 000 a year from his various second jobs and business interests – including rental income from a portfolio of commercial property worth over £10million. The sum is the fourth highest declared by any other member in parliament.

In addition Mr Zahawi recently spent £13.4 million on three flats in Belgravia, which he and his wife plan to convert into a single luxury home with a basement extension and pool.

He denies that his array of jobs interferes with his duties as an MP. All his interests have been declared, and there is no suggestion he has broken any rules. Mr Zahawi has been quoted by the Mirror: “If I were lucky enough to be made a minister one day, I would of course take a pay cut and give up all outside interests”.
